Rosh Hashanah

September 21, 2017 - September 22, 2017

Just thought you might like to know… Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה), (literally “head of the year”), is the Jewish New Year. It is the first of the High Holidays or Yamim Noraim (“Days of Awe”), celebrated ten days before Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is observed on the first two days of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. This year, Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Wednesday, September 20 and ends at sundown on Friday, September 22. BTW, the new year on the Hebrew calendar will be 5775.

Rosh Hashanah is a yom tov, which means that it has similar obligations and restrictions to Shabbat. Some Jews choose to refrain from normal “work” on these days.
